Assassin’s Creed: Liberation

I have never played any of the Assassin’s Creed games before; Liberation was my first. And I’m really happy it was. It was very refreshing to play as a kick-ass female character where sexualization wasn’t really an issue.

I’ll be honest, I’m not very good at the game. But here’s the crazy thing, I wasn’t trying to be. For me, I just wanted to experience the narrative of a high class, biracial, woman assassin on a mission to free the slaves of her city/town. I enjoyed the mechanic of the functional change of outfit. It really shutdown the argument against creating female characters because of the issue of clothing. It also added a unique aspect to the game. I also enjoyed the realism of NPC interactions with Aveline, the main character, when she was in her different personas. I thought it added a unique way to briefly show people in the majority what it is like to be in the minority, without being heavy-handed.

Unfortunately, as of right now, I haven’t gotten really far in the game. Again, I’m not very good at the game, which is unfortunate as it gets in the way of my primary purpose to just experience the story. But hey, that’s what gameplay videos on YouTube are for.
