It’s Not Just a Watch

Okay. So this isn’t exactly video game related, but I figured it was something that the techy people in the class could appreciate.

I was recently watching a video about the new Apple watches. The commentators expressed the opinion that Apple’s watch wouldn’t sell well and that it was just another overpriced watch.

However, I went to the Apple store to see what the deal with the watches was for myself. I have to say, it is more than just another watch. Yes, you wear it on your wrist and it tells the time, but there is so much more to it than that.

The Apple watch is geared towards a much larger consumer audience than the average watch is. This watch, in addition to telling the time, also allows the wearing to receive text messages, phone calls, and even creates a few new ways of communication.

One of the most interesting features of this watch is that you can send various things to a friend’s, boyfriend’s, girlfriend’s watch. The watch allows you to draw pictures and send them to another watch. When your friend receives your picture, it appears exactly as you drew it. You can also tap your watch in any pattern and it will vibrate another person’s watch in that pattern.

The feature that I am most exacted about is the ability to send your heartbeat to a friend’s watch. This, along with the features mentioned above, add new ways to communicate with one another and to remind the special people in your life that you are thinking of them.

And, let’s be honest, the watches are pretty amazing looking!

  1. It is cool but it seems impractical. Technology changes too rapidly and a product like this seems like it will become obsolete within a couple of years. I would personally rather buy a regular wrist watch.

  2. The screen seems way to small to be comfortable for texting. Also, I know most people have their phones attached them 24/7, myself included, but having the computer strapped to my wrist just seems too damn close for comfort. Does anyone else feel this way?
